MANILA, Philippines - DoubleDragon Properties Corp., a joint venture between Mang Inasal founder Edgar “Injap” Sia II and Jollibee Foods Corp. chairman Tony Tan Caktiong, plans to build five more Jinjiang Hotels this year.

“The expansion is in line with our goal of having a total of 2,000 Jinjiang Inn hotel rooms in the Philippines by 2020,” Sia told The Star.

Sia said Hotel of Asia, a subsidiary of DoubleDragon, doubled its room count target to 2,000 rooms to take advantage of the expected surge in Chinese business activities and tourists in the Philippines.

He said improved relations between the Philippines and China are expected to translate to an influx of Chinese tourists to the country.

Sia was one of the businessmen who met with President Duterte last Jan. 17 in Malacañang.

“One important part (of the meeting) was when the President was asked what he personally expects from us – the businessmen present there. The President responded that he wanted us to continue expanding our respective businesses to create more jobs,” Sia said.

The hospitality industry is expected to continue to be one of the fastest growing segments in the county, Sia said.

HOA is the exclusive master franchisee of Jinjiang Inn in the Philippines.

At present, Jinjiang Inn has two operating hotels in the country, one in the Ortigas district, and another one in the Makati district, with a total inventory of 866 rooms to date.

The new hotels are expected to rise in Quezon City, Manila, Boracay, Cavite, Baguio City, Tagaytay City, Subic, Roxas City, Clark, Iloilo City, Cebu City, Bacolod City, Dumaguete City, Bohol, Palawan, Cagayan De Oro City, Davao City and Zamboanga City.

Around the globe, the Jinjiang Group operates more than 6,000 hotels with more than 650,000 guest rooms in 60 countries.
